Funeral processions begin for Iranian President, FM
TEHRAN - The funeral processions for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian commenced on Tuesday and are set to continue until Friday, with each being laid to rest in their respective hometowns.
The tragic deaths of these two officials occurred in a plane crash near the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz. The funeral ceremonies began there, drawing hundreds of thousands of mourners bidding their final farewells.
Subsequently, the bodies were transported to Mehrabad airport in Tehran, where an official reception was held, attended by senior Iranian officials and military dignitaries.
In the city of Qom, tens of thousands of people also paid their respects to the late Raisi and Amir Abdollahian.
The remains will be brought back to Tehran on Wednesday morning for a funeral prayer led by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
