U.S. and its Western allies brazenly disregard international law: Spox

TEHRAN - Iran's government spokesman, Ali Bahadori Jahromi, has accused the United States and the West of flagrantly violating international law and exploiting their power to undermine the authority and effectiveness of international bodies.

In a social media post on Friday, Jahromi condemned the arbitrary actions of Western states, which he believes have hampered the progress and influence of international law.

His remarks were prompted by a letter sent by 12 American senators to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and its judges. In the letter, the senators threatened the ICC with severe sanctions if it issued arrest warrants for Israeli officials.

Jahromi pointed to the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of thousands of Palestinian civilians, including women and children. He highlighted the attacks on civilians, medical facilities, and even United Nations camps as evidence of the true nature of some Western countries' attitudes towards human rights.

He emphasized that the ineffectiveness of international law in preventing such atrocities underscores the impunity enjoyed by certain nations.

Jahromi's comments reflect Iran's long-standing criticism of Western powers for their selective application of international law and their tendency to prioritize their own interests over the principles of justice and accountability.
