Iran calls for IAEA impartiality in resolving nuclear ambiguities

TEHRAN –The Deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has emphasized the county’s expectation for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to maintain an impartial stance, urging the Agency to adopt a technical and professional approach.

Pezhman Shirmardi made the remarks on Tuesday, speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural International Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology. 

This call comes as Iran seeks to address two unresolved issues within the nuclear realm, which remain ambiguous from the IAEA's perspective.

Shirmardi emphasized the significance of hosting such a conference in Isfahan. He underscored the event as a milestone in Iran's efforts to bolster global nuclear cooperation and scientific exchanges.

Shirmardi highlighted a shift in Iran's approach to international conferences, noting increased domestic hosting under the current directives. He pointed to the positive reception of these events as indicative of Iran's effectiveness in engaging with the international scientific community.

Addressing media controversies surrounding Iran's nuclear program, Shirmardi emphasized its peaceful nature and reiterated Iran's commitment to sharing its nuclear expertise with other nations.

The official reaffirmed Iran's readiness to collaborate with independent nations seeking scientific advancements and expressed hopes for constructive dialogue during the conference.

Referring to the recent visit of Rafael Grossi, Director-General of the IAEA, Shirmardi acknowledged remaining uncertainties from the Agency's perspective. He stressed the need for transparent discussions to address these issues effectively.

Shirmardi also advocated for equitable access to nuclear knowledge, emphasizing the importance of its dissemination for the benefit of all nations.

The 1st international conference of Iran's nuclear sciences and technologies was held in Isfahan from May 6 to 8.

The Director-General of the IAEA arrived in Tehran on Monday. Grossi's presence underscored the international attention surrounding Iran's nuclear activities, culminating in the inaugural International Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology.
