Iran delivers 3 ordered vessels to Venezuela: PMO
TEHRAN - The head of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) said that three vessels ordered by Venezuela have been delivered to the Latin American country.
Iran’s shipbuilding industry has attracted interest from many countries in the international arena, Ali Akbar Safaei said, adding that Venezuela had ordered three 90,000-ton vessels from Iran and they were built by expert and competent domestic engineers and delivered to the South American country.
He noted that Iran has had maritime transport interactions with Venezuela since years ago.
Expert-level talks have been made with Cuba in the field of constructing ships, he said, expressing hope that domestic capability will be optimally used for the construction of vessels needed by the Latin American states, Mehr news agency reported.
Earlier this week, three Iranian leading shipbuilders formed a consortium for building all-Iranian ships.
According to Manouchehr Alipour, the managing director of Iran’s SADRA Marine Industrial Company, three companies – namely SADRA, Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex, and Darya-Bandar – paired up to meet the country’s marine industries needs.
He believed that the consortium could mobilize potential to carry out big measures.
The official said that the SADRA Company has signed contracts for building four 3,500- or 5,000-ton ships with the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), two of which are Ro-Ro ships and two others are for regular purposes.
He added that the construction of two ships will be finished by the end of the current calendar year to March 2025.
