TEHRAN - French authorities have apprehended a man who reportedly threatened to detonate explosives at Iran's consulate in Paris. However, upon inspection, no explosives were found in his possession.

According to reports from Western media, a Paris police official stated that the individual was observed entering the consulate around 11 a.m. local time (0900 GMT). Witnesses purportedly saw him carrying what appeared to be a grenade and an explosive vest.

Earlier, Paris police had cordoned off the vicinity surrounding the Iranian consulate, urging the public to steer clear of the area as a precautionary measure.

The man was allegedly persuaded by the staff to leave the consulate. Upon departure, law enforcement officials arrested the individual. Authorities have noted that he is the same individual suspected of involvement in an attempted arson incident near the Iranian consulate last September.

The man's motives were not immediately clear. No damage or casualty has been reported.
