TEHRAN- An adaptation of American playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon’s play “Rumors” is on stage at Entezami Hall of the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran.

Mikail Shahrestani is the director of the play, which has been translated by Ahou Kheradmand.

Rana Saffari, Raheleh Kheiri, Alireza Shafai, Mohammad-Ali Mohseni, Mehrnaz Alinejad and Arman Matinia are the main members of the cast for the play, which will remain on stage until May 9.

The play begins with a chaotic 10th anniversary party for the Deputy Mayor of New York, Charlie Brock, and his wife Myra. The party quickly goes awry as Charlie appears to have shot himself in the head, prompting his friends to try to cover up the situation. As more guests arrive, rumors begin to circulate about affairs and accidents, leading to misunderstandings and confusion. Despite their best efforts to keep the situation under wraps, the truth slowly unravels, culminating in a standoff with a police officer and a revelation from Myra herself.

As the guests struggle to keep the party under control, tensions rise and absurd situations unfold. From misunderstandings to mistaken identities, each character adds to the chaos in their own way. With a combination of farcical humor and escalating drama, "Rumors" explores the absurdity of trying to keep up appearances in the face of unexpected events. In the end, the truth is revealed, and the guests must confront the consequences of their attempts to hide the reality of Charlie's situation.
