Amir Abdollahian kicks off regional tour with Oman visit
TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian embarked on a new regional tour as he left Tehran for Muscat on Sunday.
"Amir Abdollahian is traveling to Oman as the first destination of his regional tour at the head of a political and parliamentary delegation. Bilateral and regional issues such as Gaza will be discussed,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced in a statement.
The top Iranian diplomat has traveled to various regional countries multiple times since the beginning of Israel’s latest war in Gaza. He has been asking Muslim nations to halt their relations with Israel to compel the regime to cease its relentless attacks on Palestinians. Since Amir Abdollahian first made that plea 6 months ago, over 33,000 civilians have lost their lives in besieged Gaza.
Yemen reaffirms support towards Palestinians
Following his arrival in Muscat, Amir Abdollahian sat down with a senior representative of the Yemeni National Salvation Government, Mohammad Abdul-Salam
During their discourse, Iran’s Foreign Minister commended the Yemeni people for their unwavering support of the oppressed Palestinian population, viewing it as a testament to the Islamic fervor and noble human dignity inherent in their actions. He conveyed heartfelt greetings and regards from both the Iranian government and its people to the esteemed leaders of the National Salvation Government and the resilient Yemeni populace.
Amir Abdollahian then thanked Yemen for its position on a recent Israeli attack on Iran’s embassy in Damascus. He condemned the act as a terrorist assault utilizing American-manufactured aircraft and missiles. He affirmed Iran's commitment to seeking justice through legal and international channels.
The diplomat voiced criticism towards the United States, the United Kingdom, and France for not condemning the Israeli aggression in a UN Security Council meeting, categorizing the move as a glaring display of political hypocrisy and an endorsement of the Zionist regime's nefarious deeds. He added that such blind support of Israel would ultimately lead to regional and international insecurity and instability.
Elsewhere in his comments, the Iranian official assessed the evolving relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia as progressive and conducive to further development.
Last but not least, Amir Abdollahian declared Iran's support for the peace initiative in Yemen while decrying American and British attacks on the Arab country as a brazen violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also highlighted Iran’s steadfast support for the resilience of the Palestinian population enduring the Zionist regime's atrocities.
In a positive response, Mohammad Abdul-Salam expressed deep satisfaction with the meeting, signaling unwavering solidarity from the Yemeni National Salvation Government and its people towards the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly in the face of recent Zionist regime aggressions resulting in the martyrdom of Iranian military advisors in Damascus.
Abdul-Salam emphasized the multifaceted support of the Yemeni National Salvation Government and its people for the oppressed Palestinians, citing its Islamic, ethical, and humanitarian dimensions, as well as its role in safeguarding Arab and Islamic national security. He warned of the dire implications for Arab and Islamic security if the Zionist regime prevails in the ongoing conflict, underscoring the unwavering support of the Yemeni people for their government's resolute stance against the Zionist regime's ambitions in the Red Sea.
He pointed out that Israel and its regional allies have been trying to fabricate Yemen’s fight against the regime in the Red Sea. Abdul-Salam said world leaders can trust that their vessels can peacefully pass through the waterway.
Expressing profound appreciation for the distinguished support extended by the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Palestinian people and the Axis of Resistance, Mohammad Abdul-Salam underscored the rationale behind the pressures and attacks directed by the United States, the Zionist regime, and their allied forces against Iran. He attributed this hostility to Iran's principled stance and unwavering support for Palestine and the Axis of Resistance, emphasizing the importance of solidarity in the face of external challenges.
Israel trying to incite regional war
Speaking at a press conference with his Omani counterpart, Amir Abdollahian warned that Israel’s attack on Iran’s embassy in Damascus was an attempt to drag the entire region into a full-blown war.
During his meeting with Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi, the Iranian diplomat also voiced serious concerns regarding the atrocities perpetrated by Israel in Gaza and the West Bank, urging collective action from Islamic countries to halt the regime’s heinous acts. He praised Oman's supportive stance towards the Palestinian cause and lauded Muscat's humanitarian efforts in aiding injured Palestinians.
Amir-Abdollahian also expressed contentment with the current political relations between the two countries. He highlighted the recent visit of the Sultan of Oman to Tehran, portraying it as a pivotal moment with the potential to bolster bilateral cooperation.
For his part, the Foreign Minister of Oman expressed contentment with the progress in bilateral relations, considering the recent agreements between the two countries as a cornerstone for further advancement. He emphasized Oman's readiness to elevate bilateral relations to match the outstanding capacities of both nations, highlighting the significance of increased cooperation in trade, private sector activities, and tourism.
The meeting also addressed various other bilateral, regional, and international topics of mutual interest.
