TEHRAN- Israeli media reports that diplomats stationed overseas have voiced fears that Iranian reprisals will be directed towards their embassies.

The Israeli regime has suspended the operations of 28 diplomatic missions around the world due to fears of retaliation by Iran.

The Jerusalem Post reported that after the Tel Aviv regime targeted the Iranian consulate in Syria, the regime’s officials shuttered around 28 diplomatic operations abroad owing to threats from Iran.

The Zionist regime’s embassies in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Turkey were evacuated on Thursday, according to a report published in the Hebrew daily Yedioth Ahronoth, citing threats from Iran.

Following an Israeli missile assault on the Islamic Republic of Iran Consulate in Damascus on Monday night, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) acknowledged the death of generals Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haj Rahimi together with five of their companions.  

The Iranian consulate resumed its work in a new building adjacent to the previous one on Saturday.

The Iranian Embassy in Damascus had earlier said that full consular services will be offered when its consular division reopened.

Hossein Akbari, Iran’s ambassador to Damascus, verified the Israeli strikes and stated that the regime had fired six missiles against the consulate structure.

Akbari added that Iran has filed a request for an emergency session of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in response to the Israeli attack on the consular part of the embassy.

He made the remarks during a ceremony held on Friday to commemorate International Quds Day at the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

“Given the failure of the Security Council to take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such heinous crimes by the Zionist regime, Iran reserves the right to respond,” he said.

In addition, the ambassador urged UN and Security Council members to uphold their responsibility to protect global peace and security by speaking out against these atrocities.

Akbari went on to say that the Israeli regime panicked and started storing food, medication, and generators in more secure locations after Iran threatened to respond forcefully to the most recent onslaught.

“This indicates they are deeply frightened of Iran's retaliation,” he said.

“But Iran’s answer is not clear and only the Zionists are aware of its depth,” he continued.   

In a message on Tuesday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that the brave Iranian men will “punish” Israel and make the evil regime “regret” its crime of assassinating the country’s military advisors in Syria.

The Leader said Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, and his deputy General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, were martyred in this crime perpetrated by the “usurping and despicable” Zionist regime.

“The evil regime will be punished by our brave men. We will make them regret this crime and other ones, by God's will,” the Leader added, noting that Iranians are contending with the heavy grief of the IRGC advisors’ martyrdom.

The Leader wished divine mercy for the victims of the terrorist attack and censured the leaders of the “oppressive and aggressive” Israeli regime.

Israeli warplanes bombed the Iranian consulate, situated next to the embassy building in Damascus’s Mezzeh district, on Monday afternoon.
