2023/24 Iran Volleyball Super League at a glance
TEHRAN – In a stunning display of athleticism and strategic prowess, Foolad Sirjan emerged triumphant as champions of the 2023/24 Iran Volleyball Super League with stunning upset win against defending consecutive two-time winners Shahdab Yazd.
Foolad won the match 3-2 (18-25, 30-28, 25-15, 22-25, 15-12) in the final match of the 37th edition at Iran Volleyball Federation Hall in Tehran.
From the outset of the league, it was predictable that both Shahdab and Foolad Sirjan would emerge as finalists due to the presence of formidable players in both teams.
Shahdab experienced many ups and downs throughout the season, but due to the high level of experience among their players and coaches, they managed to reach the Finals. Foolad Sirjan, on the other hand, commenced the league powerfully by acquiring top players like Mohammad Mousavi and, notably, having Behrouz Ataei on the team's bench, successfully concluding the season.
“Our team were exceptional, but we also faced formidable opponents. Sahdab had five good players, so the gap between us was not significant. However, league stability was crucial. We won 36 matches this season, which was an outstanding performance," Ataei added.
*League phenomenon
In this season of the Super Volleyball League, Shahrdari Urmia displayed an unpredictable performance in the league. The team had six losses and only two victories in the initial eight weeks of the league. However, with a change in coach and the presence of Abdolreza Alizadeh on Shahrdari Urmia's bench, along with the addition of several players the team experienced a successful run in the league. Against all odds, they reached the semi-finals and faced Shahdab in this stage. They managed to secure the third spot in the league, alongside Paykan.
*37 years old but still the best
The Super League's most valuable player award went to Seyed Mohammad Mousavi. It's impossible to overstate his significant role in Foolad Sirjan's championship; without him, the team may not have emerged as the league champions.
