Tehran cultural center to review Cristian Mungiu’s “R.M.N”
TEHRAN- “R.M.N”, a 2022 Romanian drama film directed by Cristian Mungiu, will go on screen at the Arasbaran Cultural Center in Tehran on Sunday.
A review session will be held with the presence of the film critic Kurosh Jahed after the screening.
The film is set in a multiethnic village in Transylvania during the 2019-20 holiday season. It follows Matthias, a man who has returned from Germany and is longing to see his ex-lover Csilla, who works in the village. As Matthias arrives in the village, he becomes caught up in the unrest caused by Csilla's decision to hire two foreigners to work in her bakery. The tensions in the village escalate as xenophobia and prejudice surface, reflecting the real-life 2020 Ditrău xenophobic incident.
The film had its world premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it competed in the main competition. Following its Cannes debut, it was also showcased at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival in the Contemporary World Cinema category. Additionally, the film was featured at the 29th edition of the European Film Festival Palić and the 15th edition of the Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg.
"R.M.N" was honored with the Golden Tower for Best Film at the 2022 European Film Festival Palić and received a Special Mention from the Press Jury at the 2022 CinEast Film Festival in Luxembourg.
