TEHRAN – The Iranian Foreign Ministry reacts strongly to Israel’s deadly missile attacks on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, saying Tehran “reserves the right to take retaliatory measures” and will decide how to “punish the aggressor”.

In the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate on Monday afternoon, seven Iranian military advisors were martyred.

Issuing a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said the “barbaric” attack on the Iranian consulate openly violates international regulations, especially the 1961 Vienna Convention.

Kanaani also said it is essential that this Israeli act be condemned in the strongest terms by the international community, especially the United Nations, and necessary measures taken in regard to the aggression.

The ministry official went on to say that different “aspects of this horrible attack are under investigation and the aggressive Zionist regime is responsible for all consequences.”

In the terrorist attack on the consulate brigadier generals Mohammad-Reza Zahedi and Mohammad-Hadi Hajrahimi and five other military officers accompanying them were assassinated, according to the official IRNA news agency.

General Zahedi was the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps Quds Force in Syria.
