TEHRAN - Rasoul Mousavi, Director General of the South Asian Affairs Department at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, has criticized certain foreign ambassadors based in Tehran for their perceived hypocrisy in remaining silent about the Israeli massacre of Palestinian women in Gaza.

Mousavi denounced the inconsistency of these ambassadors, stating that their failure to condemn Israeli actions contradicts their expressions of support for women's rights.

In a social media post on Sunday, Mousavi questioned the sincerity of the ambassadors' messages delivered on International Women’s Day (March 8), asking, “Do you really expect us to believe that there is sincerity in your words because you speak Persian?”

He further challenged their commitment to women’s rights, asking, “If you are talking about women’s rights, why aren’t you saying a word about the 9,000 women killed in Gaza by the Zionists?”

This criticism comes amid the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza, where the Israeli regime's actions continue to claim lives, especially those of women and children. UN Women data indicates that, so far, 9,000 Palestinian women have been killed by the Israeli military in the besieged territory.

The broader toll of the conflict, which commenced with the Israeli regime's war on Gaza on October 7, includes at least 31,112 Palestinians killed, with the majority being women and children, and 72,760 wounded.

UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres has called for a truce in the war in the Gaza Strip as Ramadan begins. “Yet, even though Ramadan has begun – the killing, bombing and bloodshed continue in Gaza… My strongest appeal today is to honour the spirit of Ramadan by silencing the guns and removing all obstacles to ensure the delivery of lifesaving aid at the speed and massive scale required,” he told reporters on Monday.
