Iran’s Tabatabaei wins Aeroflot Open 2024

TEHRAN – Iranian chess player Mohammadamin Tabatabaei won the international chess festival "Aeroflot Open 2024" on Thursday.

The tournament brought 142 players from 12 countries together at The Carlton Hotel in Moscow.

After defeating Andrey Esipenko in the final round, Tabatabaei became the winner of Aeroflot Open 2024.

The Iranian grandmaster, who had started off with a loss, went on to score 7.5 out of 9 points, winning three games in a row at the home stretch.  

Andrey Esipenko (Russia), Nodirbek Yakubboev (Uzbekistan), Haik Martirosyan (Armenia), and Denis Lazavik (Belarus) have scored 6.5 points apiece, ruchess.ru reported.

The Aeroflot Open International Chess Tournament was organized by the Chess Federation of Russia and the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation with the support of Aeroflot.
