Freight transit in Shahid Rajaee Port up 89%
TEHRAN - Freight transit in Iran’s largest container port, Shahid Rajaee Port, has increased by 89 percent in the first 11 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023- February 21, 2024) as compared to the previous year’s same period.
The performance records in Shahid Rajaee Port during the 11 months indicate that more than 75 million tons of freight have been loaded and unloaded in the port, while 1,906,633 TEUs of container cargo have also been transported.
From 75,806,032 tons of freight loading/unloading, more than 49 million tons were non-oil freight showing 18 percent growth, and more than 26 million tons were oil freight.
The records for transit are 5,908,608 tons of non-oil freights and 218,164 tons of oil freights showing an 89 percent increase compared to the same period in the last year.
The volume of cabotage transport in the Shahid Rajaee Port during 11 months had been 16, 774,451 tons. Also, the container loading/unloading had been 1,906,633 TEU showing a 6 percent increase, according to the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) of Hormozgan.
From March 2023 to February 2024, a total of 4,580 ships have docked in Iran's largest container port.
Shahid Rajaei Port, as the largest and most advanced container port in Iran, with 10 container berths with a total length of 2,500 meters and 23 active gantry cranes, currently has the capacity to load/unload more than 80% of container freights in Iran ports.
