Iran's Aminzadeh bags gold at Fazza Dubai 2024 World Cup

TEHRAN - Ahmad Aminzadeh of Iran won a gold medal with a record-breaking lift at the Fazza World Cup on Saturday.

Aminzadeh triumphed in the +107 kg category, securing a gold medal with a record-breaking of 267kg lift. This victory not only places Aminzadeh at the forefront of his category but also solidifies his qualification for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. His teammate, Mehdi Sayadi, despite a strong performance, narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with 231kg.

The Fazza World Cup, a pivotal event in the para powerlifting calendar, has attracted 183 powerlifters from 32 countries, showcasing the high level of competition and the international prestige of the event. This year's competition not only provided a platform for athletes to showcase their abilities but also served as a crucial qualifier for the upcoming Paralympic Games.

Earlier in the day, Mohsen Bakhtiar of Iran won a gold medal in the men's up to 59kg with a 196kg lift.

The championships, which started on Wednesday, will continue until Mar. 6 in Dubai, the UAE.
