TEHRAN – Iran and Qatar's foreign ministers, Hossein Amir Abdollahian and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, engaged in a significant telephone conversation on Thursday.

The focal point of the two foreign ministers’ discussion was the latest political efforts aimed at halting the Israeli regime's ongoing war of genocide against the Gaza Strip.

In the course of their talks, the ministers highlighted the importance of bilateral relations, emphasizing a shared commitment to strengthen comprehensive cooperation based on mutual interests. They delved into recent political developments focused on ending the conflict and atrocities in Gaza, including discussions on potential ceasefires, plans for a prisoner exchange, and international humanitarian aid shipments directed towards the people of Gaza.

Israel currently estimates that 130 captives remain in Gaza, while around 7,000 Palestinians are in Israeli jails, many of whom are detained without charge.

Additionally, Amir Abdollahian discussed the progress in bilateral relations with Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. They addressed recent agreements between the presidents of both countries and the situation in Palestine, particularly the atrocities committed by Zionist regime in Gaza.

Amir Abdollahian highlighted the agreements made during President Ebrahim Raisi's recent visit to Ankara, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to implement these agreements.

Acknowledging the recent events in Gaza and the ongoing atrocities by Zionist forces against the oppressed people of Palestine, Amir Abdollahian mentioned the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He expressed hope that Islamic countries would achieve effective results and take actions to stop the genocide by the occupying regime of the Israeli apartheid.

During the call, Turkey’s foreign minister deemed Raisi's recent visit to Ankara significant and historic, emphasizing Turkey's government's commitment to advancing cooperation with Iran. Hakan Fidan also underscored the importance of coordination among Islamic countries to confront and halt the aggressions of the Zionists.

The war on Gaza, initiated by Israel on October 7, came after the Palestinian Resistance group Hamas executed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime’s decades-long campaign of death and destruction in Palestine. The aggression has resulted in the death of more than 30,000 Palestinians, with a majority being women and children. Another 70,457 individuals have been wounded, and many bodies remain trapped under rubble. Life is rapidly deteriorating in Gaza due to the "complete siege" imposed by the Tel Aviv regime, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there. Approximately 576,000 people, about a quarter of Gaza’s population, are now "one step away from famine," according to the UN humanitarian affairs chief.
