Exhibition of Iranian Cinema underway in Barcelona
TEHRAN- Cinemas Girona in Barcelona, Spain, is hosting the Exhibition of Iranian Cinema. The event, which started on February 15 will run until March 23.
It is organized by Casa Asia and Girona Cinemas, with the collaboration of the Cultural Department of the Embassy of Iran in Spain and the Farabi Foundation, IRNA reported.
According to the Spanish organizers, Iranian cinema, characterized by auteur cinema, is easily distinguished by its narrative proposals and scripts, evidencing the solid training of its filmmakers. The event has selected five films of recent production, dated between 2020 and 2022, directed by young talents.
The participating movies include “No Prior Appointment” directed by Behrooz Shoaibi, “Sea Boys” by Afshin Hashemi and Hossein Ghasemi Jami, “Emad and Tuba's Romanticism” by Kaveh Sabaghzadeh, “Mehran” by Roqiye Tavakoli, and “Wolf Cubs of the Apple Valley” by Fereydoun Najafi.
“No Prior Appointment” tells the story of an Iranian emigrant who, after 30 years, is compelled to return to her home country upon learning of her estranged father’s death. She hastily takes leave from her work as a doctor in Berlin, Germany, bringing her young autistic son with her, which makes the trip challenging for her. She achieves a new understanding of humanity and death during her short travel to Iran and meetings with her father’s friends.
Pegah Ahangarani, Mostafa Zamani, Elham Korda, and Saber Abar are on the cast list of the 120-minute flick, which was produced in 2022.
Recently, the acclaimed drama won the Best Feature Film award as well as the award for Best Actress in the Leading Role at the 19th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival. It has also won the Golden Saint George for best film at the 2022 Moscow International Film Festival.
“Sea Boys” tells the story of two boys living in two opposite sides of the country with a shared story of losing one of their parents. The one living in the North has lost his father and the one living in the South has lost his mother. Both of them are in search of a substitute for the love of their lost guardian.
The 95-minute drama is a 2021 production and has Mona Farjad, Yasin Habibpour, Ali Bahri, Aysan Haddad, and Afshin Hashemi in the cast among others.
“Emad and Tuba's Romanticism” is a 2021 romance about Emad and Tuba, who fall in love with each other but they both know that love is more of a skill than excitement, heartbeat and itchy skin.
Elnaz Habibi, Hesam Mahmoudi, Ali Ansarian, Sam Valipour, and Sania Ramezani, are in the cast of the 97-minute film.
When fate brings Emad and Tuba to meet and get to know each other for the first time, they know full well that love is a skill, not just pure enthusiasm, beauty or a rushing ardor.
The story of “Mehran” is set in the 1980s and is about a family from Mehran, a small town near the border of Iran and Iraq, which moves to Yazd after the war breaks out. There they find themselves embroiled in the personal affairs of their hosts, who are looking for a new bride for their widowed son.
The 2020 drama, running for 78 minutes, has Sajad Esmaeili, Baset Rezei, Amirreza Vaziri, and Melika Masoumian in the cast among others.
In “Wolf Cubs of the Apple Valley,” a production of 2020, an 11-year-old boy named Asho, whose father is accused of murder, believes he lost his mother in childhood. On a journey he is forced to take, he discovers some of the realities he was unaware of and finds himself facing new obstacles and adventures.
Ali Ousivand, Sogol Tahmasbi, Samira Balipour, Amirreza Faramarzi, and Samira Parvizi play in the 85-minute drama.
