Iran calls on Switzerland to provide clarification over killing of Iranian citizen
TEHRAN- In a meeting on Wednesday with the Swiss Ambassador to Tehran, the Director-General of Consular Affairs at Foreign Ministry demanded an official explanation from the country regarding the spread of news about the killing of an Iranian national by the Swiss police.
The Iranian official emphasized the necessity for all governments, including the Swiss government, to respect the rights of Iranian citizens, adding that Tehran expects precise information in this regard to be provided to the country by the Swiss government.
The Swiss Ambassador stated that they will follow up on the matter with their relevant authorities and will announce the outcome.
Swiss police purportedly said that a 32-year-old Iranian asylum-seeker was killed by police after he allegedly used an axe and a knife to seize more than a dozen hostages for several hours on a train in western Switzerland.
Vincent Derouand, a spokesperson for the Vaud prosecutors’ office, said an investigation was underway in part to determine the man’s motive.
