The head of Iraq’s Hashed al-Shaabi alliance has demanded the withdrawal of U.S.-led coalition forces from Iraq following the recent U.S. air assaults against the country.

“They targeted administration offices, a hospital, they struck forces tasked with protecting the borders,” Faleh al-Fayyad said at a funeral ceremony for members of the group killed in the U.S. strikes.

“We urge the PM to do everything in his power to defend the sovereignty and dignity of Iraq. And this can only be done with the departure of all coalition forces from Iraq,” Fayyad said.

Meanwhile, the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, condemned the U.S. strikes in Iraq.

"American aggression on Iraq sovereignty and the killing of its sons in cold blood has been repeated in an unprecedented manner, and without deterrence from the international community,” Al-Maliki said.

He added, “The Iraqi government has the right to move at all levels in order to stop and condemn these aggressions because this act establishes the jungle law and brings more killing and destruction that is unjustified in international law, the legitimacy of human rights and the values of civilization falsely claimed".

On Friday, U.S. strikes in the west of Iraq struck positions of resistance groups, in response to an attack in late January on a base in Jordan that killed three U.S. soldiers.

Hashed al-Shaabi, which has been integrated into Iraq’s regular security forces, said 16 of its fighters were killed in Friday’s strikes and 36 people wounded.
