Iran unveils latest achievements in Army Aviation
TEHRAN – The Islamic Republic of Iran Army Aviation (IRIAA) presented its latest achievements in a groundbreaking exhibition that kicked off on Saturday morning.
The event witnessed the presence of Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief Commander of the Iranian Army, and Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari, Iranian Army Ground Forces Commander.
The exhibition showcased an array of indigenous products, including combat simulation systems, air-borne self-protection mechanisms, various long-range cruise missiles, anti-tank guided missiles, reconnaissance and suicide Switch Blade and Moharram drones, flight simulation systems, super heavy tank transporters, and artillery equipment.
Among the unveiled innovations were the upgraded long-range Shafagh (Dawn) air-to-ground missile and the Yousef night vision system, both intricately crafted and developed by Iranian experts.
The advanced Shafagh missile system, domestically engineered, boasts an extended operational range of up to 20 kilometers, complemented by enhanced target acquisition capabilities. Its precision and accuracy render it adaptable to various tactical and operational strategies for future warfare. Developed collaboratively by IRIAAs engineers and the Iranian knowledge-based companies, this system seamlessly integrates into the operational fleet.
Key features include the "Fire & Forget" capability, an upgraded warhead, and an infrared seeker, enabling continuous 24/7 operation in adverse weather conditions. Installed on various IRIAA helicopters, this system proves effective in neutralizing enemy facilities and fortifications across all operations.
The Yousef night vision system was also unveiled in the exhibition. The homegrown system is capable of detecting and striking fixed and mobile targets from a long distance away and in adverse weather conditions.
The night vision system reportedly employs two cutting-edge technologies, including stabilization based on optical gyroscopes and tracking algorithms derived from artificial intelligence.
A standout military achievement introduced was the Qadr-29 missile system, designed to be installed on Bell 206 helicopters. This homegrown system launches missiles with a four-kilogram warhead at a range of 150 kilometers, suitable for diverse operations.
Additionally, an integrated missile system, paired with Bell AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters, was unveiled. This system allows pilots to use fire-and-forget missile guidance technology for launching air-launched missiles like Almas and Qaem.
In recent years, Iranian military experts and technicians have made substantial strides in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, ensuring self-sufficiency in the arms sphere for the armed forces.
Officials underscored the commitment to continuously enhance the country's military capabilities, including missile power, solely for defensive purposes. Iran's defense capabilities are emphasized to be non-negotiable, and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has consistently urged efforts to maintain and strengthen Iran’s defense capabilities, countering any disputes from enemies regarding the country’s missile program.
