Lawmaker calls for harmony in foreign policies
TEHRAN- A member of Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee has called for harmony among relevant departments and agencies in charge of crafting the country's foreign policy.
In an interview with ISNA on Sunday, Abolfazl Amouei said that based on the resolution passed by Parliament, all agencies including the Atomic Energy Organization and the Ministry of Intelligence should cooperate and coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in their foreign relations activities.
He also noted that the armed forces must also act under the supervision of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Prior to it, there has been some exemptions for having cooperative measures with the foreign ministry but with today’s resolution, all departments are obliged to be aligned with the ministry, he added.
The spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee stated that in the 6th National Development Plan, the armed forces were exempted from such coordination whereas in the 7th National Development Plan it was decided that coordination between the armed forces and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should be within the framework of Article 118.
Amouei concluded by saying, “With today’s resolution, an important step has been taken towards greater coherence in the performance of government agencies in implementing foreign policy.”
“The resolution helped adopt a consensus approach in foreign policy interactions with other countries,” he added.
