Arasbaran Cultural Center to show Spain’s representative at 96th Academy Awards
TEHRAN-Spain’s representative at the 96th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category “Society of the Snow” will be shown at Arasbaran Cultural Center in Tehran on Sunday.
A 2023 production of Spain, Chile, Uruguay, and the U.S., the film has been directed by J. A. Bayona, based on a book of the same name written by Pablo Vierci, which documents the accounts of the 16 survivors of the Uruguayan 1972 Andes flight disaster, many of whom Vierci knew from childhood. The cast is composed of Uruguayan and Argentine actors, most of whom are newcomers.
After the film screening at 6 p.m., a review session will be held in the presence of film critic Kourosh Jahed at the center amphitheater, ILNA reported.
The survival thriller film is centered around the flight of a rugby team, which crashes on a glacier in the Andes. The few passengers who survive the crash find themselves in one of the world's toughest environments to survive.
In 1972, the Uruguayan Air Force flight 571, chartered to transport a rugby team to Chile, experiences an unexpected incident and crashes into a glacier in the heart of the Andes. Of the 45 passengers on board, only 16 managed to survive. Trapped in one of the most inaccessible and hostile environments on the planet, they are forced to resort to every means possible to stay alive. Their survival will depend on the decisions they make amid this desperate situation.
Having been received well by the critics, the film has also been nominated for the Best Makeup and Hairstyling at this year’s Oscars.
This is the 605th movie set to be shown at the movie club of the Arasbaran Cultural Center, located on Jolfa Street, northwest of Seyed-Khandan Bridge.
