Americans have purchased Iranian heavy water, Iran nuclear chief says
TEHRAN- Mohammad Eslami, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) revealed that the United States has previously purchased Iran's heavy water.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Eslami stated that Iran exports heavy nuclear water to various advanced nations.
He emphasized Tehran’s commitment to cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), adding that Iran collaborates with the IAEA in accordance with standards.
He also said that under the IAEA terms, the agency can deploy experts and install cameras in Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Eslami clarified that the IAEA is not obligated to report any non-compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by its parties, stressing that the responsibility to communicate such matters lies with Tehran, but unfortunately, Tehran’s reports have not garnered attention.
AEOI chief also underscored Tehran’s commitment to employing cutting-edge nuclear technology to address agricultural challenges namely combating pests in the country's groves.
Addressing the recent criticisms from some European nations, Eslami attributed these concerns primarily to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal. He reiterated Iran's adherence to the JCPOA provisions and safeguards, noting that Iran is fulfilling its obligations despite the European side's failure to fulfill its commitments and lift sanctions.
Eslami concluded by highlighting the importance of nuclear energy, emphasizing its position as the world's cleanest energy source. He acknowledged the global trend towards expanding nuclear power and underscored Iran's goal of establishing nuclear power plants of various scales to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions.
