Top Iranian official warns U.S. against ‘drowning’ in Red Sea
TEHRAN- A top Iranian official has warned that the U.S. and U.K.'s recent airstrikes on Yemen are a desperate attempt to escape the "self-made swamp" of the Gaza war.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme Council for the Coordination of the Heads of Governments, made the remarks on X social media, comparing the U.S.'s situation in Yemen to that of Pharaoh's drowning in the Nile.
"The U.S. and U.K.'s recent airstrikes on Yemen are a clear indication of their desperation to escape the self-made swamp of the Gaza conflict," Rezaei wrote on X. "Just as Pharaoh drowned in the Nile, America is destined to drown in the Red Sea."
The airstrikes, which began on January 12 following a UN Security Council resolution, have targeted Yemeni positions resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to six more.
The political office of Yemen's Ansarullah Movement responded to the airstrikes with a statement on Friday night, vowing that the recent aggression against Yemen would not go unanswered.
