Iran freestyle team come second at Zagreb Open

TEHRAN – Iran won eight medals in men’s freestyle at the Zagreb Open and finished in second place.

The Iranian freestylers seized three gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the ranking event.

Mohammad Nokhodi recovered from a grueling semifinal against Evan Wick from the U.S. to win gold at 79kg with a 6-0 win over Georgian Avtandil Kentchadze.

Amirali Azarpira defeated Kyle Snyder 6-3 at the final match of the 97kg to win the gold medal.

His compatriot Kamran Ghasempour defeated Erhan Yaylaci from Turkey 3-1 in the bronze medal match.

At 125kg weight class, Amirhossein Zare defeated his countryman Amir Reza Masoumi 5-0 to win the third gold.

At 65kg, Iran’s Rahman Amouzad lost to Vazgen Tevanyan from Armenia after pulling out due to the injury. Amouzad’s compatriot Abbas Ebrahimzadeh seized a bronze in the class.

Hossein Abouzari from Iran also lost to American Jason Nolf at the final bout of 74kg.

The U.S. won the team standings in men’s freestyle with 159 points, followed by Iran with 115 points and Georgia with 110 points.
