Consul general of Iran to Nakhchivan assumes duties
TEHRAN – Consul General Aziz Mansouri assumed his duties in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on January 10, marking the beginning of his tenure as the newly appointed consul general of Iran.
According to IRNA, Mansouri initiated his duties with a trip to Baku. During his visit, he conducted meetings with political and ceremonial officials from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Subsequent to these discussions, he proceeded to Nakhchivan.
It is noteworthy that Aziz Mansouri previously served as the head of the Department of Multilateral Financial-Commercial, Energy, and Transport Cooperation in the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
Previously, a deadly attack at the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran in January 2023, damaged relations between the two neighbors. However, investigations by Iran revealed that the incident resulted from a personal dispute involving the gunman, who believed his wife was in the embassy. The aftermath of the attack marked the most severe diplomatic confrontation between the two neighbors since the early 1990s, until a July visit to Baku by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian that eventually signaled an increase in diplomacy between Azerbaijan and Iran.
