TEHRAN- Pope Francis has sent his condolences and conveyed his “heartfelt sorrow” at the death of several dozen persons in terrorist attacks in Kerman, southeast Iran.

According to Vatican News, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin sent a Telegram message on behalf of the pope on Friday expressing his condolences.

The Pope was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life caused by the recent explosions in Kerman and conveyed the assurance of his prayers for those who have died and for their grieving families.

Earlier on Friday, Russia’s Orthodox Bishop Patriarch Kirill sent a message of condolence to the Leader and president of Iran over the terrorist attacks.

The Russian bishop offered his condolences for the loss of life, offering serenity for the dead’ families and a swift recovery for the injured.

On the same day, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a message to his Iranian counterpart, offering condolences and sympathies in these difficult times, wishing those injured in the assaults a swift recovery.

Laura Ferrara, member of the European Parliament for Southern Italy, also published a statement on Friday, expressing compassion for the Iranian people.

Ferrara, also a member of Italy’s Five Star Movement, condemned the attacks as cruel since they targeted people.  

“We, in the Five Star Movement, are very concerned about the spiraling cycle of violence in the Middle East [West Asia],” she said in her statement, calling on authorities in different countries to help moderation and rationality prevail.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a message of sympathy to the authorities of Iran on Saturday, after the country was hit with deadly bombings.

He also expressed sympathy to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and reaffirmed North Korea’s stand in “opposing all sorts of terrorism.”

In a statement issued on Thursday, the UN Security Council said, “The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the cowardly terrorist attack in the city of Kerman, the Islamic Republic of Iran on January 3.”

The Security Council encouraged all governments to work constructively with the government of Iran to prosecute the perpetrators of the terrorist act.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement on Wednesday strongly condemning the terrorist attack in Kerman.

“The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack today on a memorial ceremony in Kerman city in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Secretary-General calls for those responsible to be held accountable,” deputy spokesperson Florencia Soto Nino said. 

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi saying he is “shocked to learn about serious terror attacks” in southeastern city of Kerman.

Syrian President sent separate messages to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and President Raisi on Thursday, extending his condolences over the horrendous incident. 

Pakistani President Arif Alvi expressed condolences to the Iranian government and people over the Kerman terrorist attack and condemned the barbaric act.  

Since Wednesday, when two explosions targeted a ceremony commemorating the fourth anniversary of Iran’s top general Qassem Soleimani’s assassination in Kerman, world leaders and religious figures have expressed sympathy with the Iranian people and government over the tragedy.
