Tehran starts taking prompt 'legal measures' through UN following deadly terror blasts in Kerman

TEHRAN - Iran's foreign minister says the country has started taking "legal measures" through the United Nations after two terror blasts killed 84 people and injured 284 in the southeastern city of Kerman.

Hossein Amir Abdollahian announced the information in a post on X late on Wednesday, hours after the explosions that took place near the burial site of senior anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.

"Based on initial information obtained from official sources, the Foreign Ministry has begun [taking] its prompt legal and international measures through the United Nations," Amir Abdollahian wrote.

The heart-wrenching terrorist attacks happened as people were marking the fourth anniversary of the assassination of General Soleimani. 

According to IRNA, the first blast happened some 700 meters from General Soleimani's burial place, and the second about one kilometer away.

The first explosion occurred at 14:50 local time, the second 10 minutes later, ISNA quoted Kerman Mayor Saeed Tabrizi as saying.

President Ibrahim Raisi has vowed that those behind the "indiscriminate and cowardly" attacks would soon be brought to justice.

Amir Abdollahian condoled with the survivors and the Iranian nation over the terrorist attacks, and wished the wounded "immediate recovery."
