TEHRAN – Female footballer Melika Mohammadi’s funeral was held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Sunday.

Her family, the officials of the Iran football federation, her teammates and hundreds of football fans were able to pay their final respects to the player.

Melika Mohammadi will be buried in Bethesda, Maryland, United States.

She died in a car crash Saturday night at the age of 23.

Mohammadi represented Iran at senior level during the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualification.

Her teammates Zahra Khajavi and Behnaz Taherkhani were also taken to the hospital in the rollover crash.

The accident happened in Bam, Kerman Province, when the Bam Khatoon players were returning from the training.
