TEHRAN – The spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has emphasized the committee’s commitment to thoroughly examine the details of the national budget bill for the year ahead, saying that the primary focus would be on scrutinizing the defense budget and allocations for the armed forces.

During an interview with the media outlets, Mahmoud Abbaszadeh Meshkini clarified that if the defense budget experiences stagnation or reduction in the proposed government bill compared to the current year, the National Security Committee of the parliament would actively recommend augmentations in this budget category during the open session. This approach aims to ensure the country's defense capabilities align with emerging challenges and strategic needs.

In addition to the defense budget, the lawmaker emphasized key budget priorities for the upcoming year. Abbaszadeh Meshkini highlighted a vital aspect related to the country's border guards, shedding light on the challenges faced by these dedicated personnel. Protecting the extensive land and maritime borders with limited resources and logistical support poses a significant challenge, making it imperative to address their needs in the budget allocation process.

Underlining the paramount importance of beefing up logistics at border areas, Abbaszadeh Meshkini underscored the need to secure government financial assistance dedicated to border preservation. He argued convincingly that a nation's security is intricately tied to the protection of its borders, urging for increased attention to be directed toward border guards and the overall security of the country's borders.

Moreover, the parliamentary committee spokesperson brought attention to the adverse effects of escalating incidents and the sacrifices made by border guards and forces stationed in remote areas. Recognizing the deterrent impact on young individuals considering military service, he advocated for reinforcing security and defense capabilities for forces stationed in remote regions as a proactive countermeasure to this emerging issue. This multifaceted approach seeks to not only safeguard the nation's borders but also to bolster the morale and effectiveness of the dedicated forces protecting them.

Iranian officials have made it clear that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, noting that these measures are solely intended for defense and that the country's defense capabilities will never be up for negotiation.
