Parliament ready to convene Permanent Committee on Palestine: speaker
TEHRAN- Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has voiced parliament’s readiness to hold an extraordinary session of Permanent Committee on Palestine.
The meeting will be held at the level of heads of parliaments of Islamic countries in a bid to evaluate practical solutions to support the oppressed people of Palestine.
During his phone talks with Ebrahim Bughali, the president of the People's National Assembly of Algeria, Ghalibaf discussed the latest developments and crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza.
Ghalibaf hailed Algeria’s role and stance in condemning the Zionist regime, lauding the Algerian parliament’s efforts in supporting the oppressed Gazans.
He recalled previous talks with Bughali, stressing that the meeting was expected to be held sooner but had been postponed due to some reasons.
Pointing to the global condemnation of Israeli barbaric attacks, the Iranian Parliament Speaker said, “We as Islamic countries must call for practical actions and prevent the occurrence of such inhuman acts.”
Algeria’s Bughali, for his part, lauded Iran’s decisive stance toward backing the Palestinian cause, saying, “Although innocent blood was shed in this war, many hospitals, churches, mosques, and houses were destroyed, but the Palestinian cause has returned to its rightful place."
“Unfortunately, some Arab and Muslim states, despite being aware of the crimes of this child-killing regime, tried to normalize their relationship with this regime,” Bughali said.
According to Bughali, these states have made efforts to consign the Palestinian cause to oblivion. Still, many European and Latin American countries have decried the inhumane behavior of the Israeli regime and banned the import of Israeli goods.
Pointing to the U.S. veto of the UN Security Council resolution asking for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, He called the act “predictable,” stressing that the U.S. has kept backing crimes of the Israeli regime.
Ultimately, the Algerian official welcomed Ghalibaf’s proposal to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Palestine Permanent Committee in Tehran.
