TEHRAN Navy Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces Rear Admiral Abbas Mohtaj announced here Tuesday that the armed forces are attaining self-sufficiency in military hardware and aerospace technology.
Inaugurating a seminar on aerospace technology, Mohtaj said the navy has equipped all its vessels and bases with domestically-made missiles.
He said before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the navy was dependent on foreign suppliers in repairing its vessels and equipment, but, now overhaul, repair and reconstruction of naval hardware are conducted by Iranian technicians.
Mohtaj said the successful testing of Iranian-made aerospace equipment in the military exercises, the air operations and the amphibious exercises indicated that the Iranian armed forces have attained self-sufficiency.
He said the progress made by the armed forces in technology and know-how helped develop cooperation and exchange of experience between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Persian Gulf states.
The seminar and exhibit on aerospace technology will continue until Sept 7.
