Daunting task ahead of next president of Iran volleyball: expert
TEHRAN - Mahmoud Afshardoost, a respected volleyball expert, believes that Iran volleyball faces the most important challenge for the next president of the volleyball federation.
On Saturday, Vahid Moradi was named caretaker of the Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF) after Mohammadreza Davarzani, former president of IRIVF, stepped down due to reaching retirement age.
“Let me begin by congratulating Mr. Moradi on his appointment as the acting president. He has a daunting task ahead of him during this period, and I am thankful for his acceptance of this immense responsibility,” said Afshardoost in his exclusive interview with Tehran Times.
Moradi must organize the presidential and federation's board elections without delay.
When questioned about the major challenge for the next president of the volleyball federation, Afshardoost said, “The future president of the volleyball federation faces a crucial challenge with the senior national team, for two reasons: Firstly, it is crucial to select the new head coach of the national team promptly. Secondly, the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Men's Nations League (VNL) matches are of great significance, as the Iran national team have a slim opportunity to qualify for the Olympics.
“Another crucial duty of the next federation’s president is to thoroughly analyze the Iranian Volleyball League and select the top players to support the national team,” he added.
Afshardoost also discussed the qualities of the future IRIVF president.
The president of the IRIVF should possess experience in both domestic and international divisions and carry out significant responsibilities. Having a long-term and short-term plan is vital in the domestic sector, along with generating income for the federation.
“In the international section, it is crucial for him to cultivate strong connections with the FIVB, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), and the presidents of other countries' federations. Furthermore, he should actively pursue opportunities to secure seats in the FIVB and AVC boards, using them strategically to elevate Iranian volleyball,” Afshardoos concluded.
