TEHRAN- Yaghoub Rezazadeh, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran's parliament, has accused the U.S. of paving the way for the genocide of the Gazan people by vetoing the ceasefire resolution that the United Arab Emirates tabled recently.   

The United States vetoed the resolution backed by almost all other council members. The U.S. move took place as the UN chief called the situation in Gaza a “humanitarian nightmare.”

Thirteen Security Council members voted in favor of a brief draft resolution, put forward by the United Arab Emirates, while the United Kingdom abstained. 

The vote came after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made a rare move on Wednesday to formally warn the 15-member council of a threat to global peace and security from the two-month-long war in the Gaza Strip.  

Referring to the U.S. veto of the UN Security Council resolution, Rezazadeh stated that more than 18,000 innocent people in Gaza, especially children and women, have been martyred through the Zionist regime's crimes which are backed by the U.S.  

According to Rezazadeh, Biden’s mid-October visit to Tel Aviv was a bid to organize the Israeli crimes against the oppressed Gazans. 
       
The U.S. veto, he said, revealed the “criminal” face of Washington to the people worldwide.      

In the end, he emphasized, “Their goal is to evacuate the people of Gaza from their land,” adding that Muslim people and Muslim countries will foil their (Israel and U.S.) plot.
