TEHRAN – Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous has arrived in Iran for discussions with senior Iranian officials on enhancing the ties between Tehran and Damascus.

Mohammad Jamshidi, the Iranian president’s deputy chief of staff for political affairs, announced the visit on Friday, emphasizing its alignment with the implementation of agreements and participation in the fifteenth summit of the Joint High Commission on Economic Cooperation between Iran and Syria, which is to be hosted in Tehran.

Jamshidi mentioned that a formal reception for Arnous is scheduled on Saturday Morning, where the Syrian Prime Minister is set to be welcomed by Mohammad Mokhber, Iran’s First Vice President. 

According to Jamshidi, during Arnous’s three-day visit to Tehran, the Syrian prime minister will take part in the economic cooperation summit and meetings with the Iranian President, the Speaker of the Parliament, and the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

“In line with the implementation of agreements reached during this year’s visit of the Iranian president to Syria and the focal points agreed upon during that trip, which were finalized after the sessions of the joint commissions of the two countries, collaborative documents will be signed during Arnous’s visit to Tehran,” added Jamshidi. He highlighted that extensive economic cooperation in customs, banking, joint trade zones, tourism, energy, and power supply will be discussed and operationalized by high-ranking delegations from Iran and Syria during this visit.

Earlier in May, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad signed 15 documents in Damascus, solidifying their commitment to expanding bilateral relations. These documents cover various areas, including trade, oil and energy, engineering, housing, rail and aerial transportation, free trade zones, communications and technology, earthquake reliefs, and facilitation of pilgrimage to holy sites for the two Muslim nations.
