Islamic Jihad warns Israel is seeking to push Gazans into Egypt
TEHRAN - The Islamic Jihad resistance movement’s representative in Iran warned on Saturday that the Israeli regime has been making continuous efforts to drive out the 2.3 million people of the besieged Gaza Strip into the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula
“Egypt must firmly stand against these Zionist plans and declare war on Israel if such scenario takes place,” Nasser Abu Sharif said during an interview with Iranian media.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has publicly stated that Egypt will not allow a displacement of Palestinians, as it would mean “the end of the Palestinian cause” and a potential threat to Egypt’s national security.
Some reports however suggest that Israel might offer to pay off some of Egypt’s vast public debt in exchange for allowing the forced displacement of people from Gaza into Sinai. The Islamic Jihad representative also called on Islamic countries to show a more concerted effort and ramp up pressure on the Israeli regime. “We are grateful to Iran for its political, diplomatic, and spiritual support towards Palestinians. Other countries should follow in the footsteps of Iran and resistance groups, as the Zionist regime poses a threat to everyone in the region”.
Abu Sharif further added that the Biden administration has not been able to retain Iran and other resistance groups similar to prior American presidents, saying that President Biden is under growing pressure for his impotence towards the resistance.
“Through normalizing relations and the Abraham Accords with Arab countries, America sought to contain Iran and the axis of resistance,” the Islamic Jihad official explained.
The Palestinian representative said the crimes of the Israeli regime have caused steep a decrease in Biden's popularity and upped pressure on him. “America's green light for Israel’s war on Gaza is now turning yellow”.
