Chilean documentary filmmaker to hold workshop at 17th Cinéma Vérité

TEHRAN-The celebrated Chilean documentary filmmaker Ignacio Agüero will hold a workshop at the 17th edition of Iran International Documentary Film Festival Cinéma Vérité, due to be held in Tehran from December 18 to 23.

“The Role of Sound in the Documentary Narrative” is the title of the workshop where Agüero will share his experiences with the participants, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

Born in Santiago, Chile, in 1952, Agüero studied architecture and cinema. He is a film professor at the University of Chile and is member of the network “Cero en Conducta”, which organizes film workshops for children. He has made numerous documentary films since 1974 for which he has won several awards. 

His line of work as an artist has been mainly as the author of documentary films. But he has also made telefilms, and has been an actor in numerous films. Retrospectives of his films have been held in various countries, such as Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, New Zealand, Spain, and France. He has also been the president of the Chilean Association of Documentary Film-Makers and a judge for international festivals.

His most notable works include “Do Not Forget” (1982), “One Hundred Children Waiting for a Train” (1988), “Dreams of Ice” (1994), “The Other Day” (2012), “Agustín's Newspaper” (2008), and “I Never Climbed the Provincia” (2019).

The 17th Cinéma Vérité will be organized by the Documentary & Experimental Film Center (DEFC). It aims to represent the history and culture of Iranian Islamic society and present a real picture of what human is facing today in his/her individual and social life through documentary films.

With this objective, the special focus of this edition of the festival is on two national and international challenges: the water crisis and population issues.

A total of 2,454 documentaries from around the world have been submitted to the event including 615 works are from Iran and 1,839 foreign documentaries from Turkey, China, the U.K., Russia, Poland, Spain, Egypt, Argentina, Indonesia, and Germany among others.
