IAEA should react to Israeli regime’s nuclear threats, says Iran’s nuclear chief

TEHRAN- Mohammad Eslami, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), responded to the nuclear threats of the Israeli minister, pinning the responsibility for any incident in the enclave on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Earlier this year, upon the start of the ground invasion of the Gaza Strip by the Israeli Army, Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu considered atomic bomb as an “option” for the Zionist Army.

On the sidelines of the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, Iran’s nuclear chief told reporters that the responsibility for any incident lies with the International Atomic Energy Agency, adding that the Zionist regime has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and today, the regime threatens the world with an atomic bomb.

Pointing to his letter to the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Eslami reiterated that he had reminded Grossi of the Israeli regime’s open nuclear threats against Palestinians.

He also pointed to remarks by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who said in September at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly that Israel should confront Iran with “credible nuclear threats.”

Underlining the responsibility of the IAEA for non-proliferation, Eslami criticized the stance of the IAEA toward the Israeli regime which has neither signed the NPT nor is it committed to safeguards.

Describing the Israeli regime’s acts as a “violation of international laws,” Eslami called on Grossi to report these violations to the UN Security Council.

In the end, he expressed hope for a day when international organizations will be effective and will ensure global peace and security.
