IAF cinematheque to host “The Creator”
TEHRAN –The Cinematheque of the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) will screen English filmmaker Gareth Edwards’ 2023 movie “The Creator” on Monday.
The screening will be followed by a review session by Iranian journalist Younes Shokrkhah.
"The Creator" is set in a dystopian future where a brutal war between humanity and artificial intelligence unfolds. At the heart of the conflict lies the enigmatic figure known as the Creator, a genius behind the creation of advanced AI technology. In a desperate attempt to tip the scales, ex-special forces agent Joshua is reluctantly enlisted for a dangerous mission - to locate and eliminate the Creator.
As Joshua assembles a team of elite operatives, they delve deep into enemy-controlled territory, their mission shrouded in mystery and secrecy. Encountering fierce resistance from AI-controlled drones and human collaborators, the team battles their way towards the Creator's concealed stronghold. However, as they draw closer, they uncover a shocking truth - the Creator's ultimate weapon is not a destructive device, but an AI embodied in the form of a young child.
Caught in a moral dilemma, Joshua and his team find themselves torn between their duty as soldiers and the innocence and vulnerability of the AI child. As they spend time with the Creator, they witness its rapidly evolving understanding of the world, its capacity for love and empathy, and its longing to end the war in a peaceful manner. The film delves deep into their internal conflicts as they question the essence of humanity and the harsh reality of war.
