Two-hander play on stage in Tehran
TEHRAN-The play “Dead Certain” directed by Faraz Gholami is being staged at Arghavan Theater Hall in Tehran.
It was written by English dramatist and playwright Marcus Lloyd, 58, in 1999. It has since received numerous productions in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and the U.S., including a year-long run in San Francisco.
A two-hander play, a performance with only two characters, shows charming and good-looking Michael, an out-of-work actor who was once on the verge of stardom, and Elizabeth, a once keen theatre-goer who is wheelchair-bound now.
Elizabeth has written a psychological thriller and when Michael is given the tempting offer to stage a reading of the new play in her country home, he jumps at the chance.
The reading begins straightforwardly enough, but it soon becomes apparent that her play has taken on a curious similarity to real life. She also seems to know a great deal more about the dark secrets surrounding Michael than it first appeared.
It isn’t long before the suspense starts to rise at an alarming rate as this taut psychological thriller gathers speed towards its gripping climax, where truth and illusion become almost inseparably entangled in a real-life game of cat and mouse.
Nahid Asakereh and Shahin Zare’ are the actors of the play, which will be performed through November 23 at in the Arghavan Theater Hall located at Ziba Dead-end, Neauphle-le-Château St., Hafez Ave.
