Tehran denounces US-EU double standards on Israel’s genocidal acts
TEHRAN- The ambassador of Iran to Belgium has slammed the European Union and the United States for adopting a double standard approach toward the “genocide” being committed by Israel against the beleaguered Gaza Strip.
The comments were delivered by Gholamhossein Dehqani on Monday during a news conference in Brussels, the capital of the European Union.
Ambassadors from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) states were also present at the press conference.
“In the past 30 days, we have witnessed the application of double standards by the European Union, the United States, and many European countries towards the criminal acts committed by Israel in Gaza,” he added.
He went on to stress, “Despite the global outcry and demands for a ceasefire from people in the streets, from the U.S. to Europe to Australia, Western decision-makers unfortunately do not heed the people's wishes.”
The Iranian ambassador harshly criticized American stance on Israel’s atrocities in Gaza, saying, “The United States has displayed prejudice to such an extent that even some of its regional allies do not view it as qualified for mediation.”
Dehqani stressed that although the European Union always presents itself as an advocate of human rights, it has said nothing about the deaths of Palestinians in Gaza and has actually supported the regime’s crimes.
The ambassador emphasized that Tel Aviv will not stop its genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza unless it meets real international pressure and is held accountable for its crimes.
The envoy asked the European Union to modify its stance and take concrete steps to end Israel’s attacks.
The Iranian envoy also discussed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s recent statement denouncing Israel’s bombings, emphasizing that “practical measures are needed in the current crisis to compel the criminal regime to halt the bloodshed.”
