Iran FM calls Israeli Gaza killings flagrant breach of intl. law
TEHRAN- The continued slaughter of Palestinians in the confined Gaza Strip by Israel has been forcefully denounced by Iran’s foreign minister as a flagrant breach of international law.
Hossein Amir Abdollahian made the comments on Monday during a phone conversation with his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó.
During the call, the two senior diplomats reviewed the recent developments in the West Asia region, particularly the situation in Palestine and Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Referring to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza due to Israel’s “savage” crimes, Iran’s foreign minister said, “Through indiscriminate bombardment and massacre of people in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli regime has blatantly violated all norms of human rights and international law.”
Amir Abdollahian also emphasized the importance of increasing international pressure on Israel to end its assaults against the Gaza Strip, establish a truce, and send relief aid to be besieged Gazans.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir Abdollahian expressed pleasure with Iran-Hungary relations, expressing Tehran’s preparedness to host a meeting of the two nations’ joint commission.
For his part, Hungary’s top diplomat expressed optimism that relations between the two nations would strengthen in all areas of mutual interest.
On Sunday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) sounded a stern alarm about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, saying, “The situation in Gaza is rapidly approaching a humanitarian disaster.”
“An unbearable human tragedy is unfolding in front of our eyes. People call us day and night saying they are afraid to open their doors for fear of getting killed and pleading to help them reach safety,” said William Schomburg, head of the ICRC’s sub-delegation in Gaza.
Targeting densely populated urban areas, the ICRC expressed alarm about the regime’s actions, stating that “Israeli attacks taking place in heavily populated urban areas in the Gaza Strip, including around hospitals, endanger the lives of the most vulnerable people like medical staff, patients, the wounded, premature babies, people with disabilities, and the elderly.”
