TEHRAN - A top military adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has said that Iran must keep working towards leveraging technological progress to counter threats in both aerial and maritime domains.

“Continuous technological advancements in the world has caused armies around the world to move towards strengthening their technological capabilities according to various needs,” said Major General Seyyed Yahya Safavi on Wednesday, adding that the threats Iran is facing today are “air-based and sea-based.”

Safavi emphasized the need to increase Iran's deterring power. “National cohesion and internal strength, along with solving people's livelihood and economic issues, are among the important issues in the Islamic Republic,” he explained.

He said Iran’s navy in particular can make use of various maritime opportunities that are emerging in its vicinity.

“The Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf connect the new continental maritime territory with the participation of Asian powers such as China, India, and Russia, with the maritime territory of America and its allies,” the general noted.

The senior advisor also pointed out the recent achievements of the Iranian navy. “There has been significant progress in surveillance capabilities, maneuverability, speed, and decision-making. There has also been a significant decrease in reliance on human resources. Today, unmanned equipment is among modern technologies used in various commercial and recreational fields,” he stated.

The general also stressed the need to confront American unilateralism through cooperation with major powers like China and Russia.

“With China and Russia, we can achieve common interests at a strategic level and confront threats from America and NATO, which requires a long-term strategy”.

Safavi added that it’s important to correctly identify the enemy’s strategies, come up with one’s own plans, and make optimal use of technology in executing those plans.
