TEHRAN – Forum des Images, a Parisian cultural center, will pay tribute to the late Iranian filmmaker, Dariush Mehrjui, by screening his 1990 film "Hamoun" on November 5.

Organized in collaboration with the Iranian Cinema Association, the event will explore Mehrjui's career and legacy, with the presence of Fabien Gaffez, the artistic director of the forum, Agnès Devictor, a lecturer and specialist in Iranian cinema, and Nader Takmil Homayoun, the director and head of the Iranian Cinema Association.

Dariush Mehrjui had participated in the Forum des Images' unique program "Portraits of Tehran" in 2003 as a distinguished guest.

"Hamoun" tells the story of Hamid Hamoun, a struggling would-be philosopher, who is haunted by his failed attempt to decipher the meaning of love and pushed over the edge by his artist wife’s demand for a divorce.

Born in 1939 in Tehran, Mehrjui was a renowned Iranian filmmaker who was known for introducing realism, symbolism, and the sensibilities of art cinema. 

"Sara" (1993), "Pari" (1995), "Leila" (1996), "Mom's Guest" (2004), and "The Orange Suit" (2012) are among his credits. His most recent film, "La Minor," was released in 2020.

Throughout his career, Mehrjui has received numerous accolades and awards for his contributions to Iranian cinema. His films have been showcased at prestigious film festivals globally, earning him a dedicated following of cinephiles and critical acclaim.

Mehrjui was stabbed to death on October 14 alongside his wife Vahideh Mohammadifar at their home in Karaj, Alborz Province. His tragic murder was met with widespread reactions
