Hassan Yazdani undergoes shoulder surgery
TEHRAN - At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhu, Iranian wrestling star Hasan Yazdani won a gold medal, but the blue kinesiology sports tape on his shoulder raised concerns about his health condition.
On Saturday, an unexpected announcement was made that Hassan Yazdani, wrestler with nine international medals, would undergo shoulder surgery.
With less than nine months until the 2024 Olympics, the focus is on Yazdani and whether he will be able to compete for Iran and win a valuable medal.
Yazdani's surgery was deemed successful by doctors, who projected his recovery period to be 4-5 months. It seems he will be able to start training on the mat in March 2024.
Yazdani decided to skip the Iranian wrestling league, despite his contract with Houtan wrestling team, in order to have his surgery earlier.
Regarding this matter, Dr. Aslani reported that Hasan Yazdani had injuries in the tendons of his right shoulder. A six-hour surgery was performed to address these injuries, and all necessary procedures were carried out successfully.
“Three injuries were repaired in a complex operation. He can begin reviewing wrestling technique after 5 to 6 months,” said the doctor.
The surgery of Hasan Yazdani has raised significant concerns among Iranian wrestling fans, considering his need for intensive training for the Paris Olympics.
Initially, it was believed that Yazdani's primary focus in the next nine months would be on his rivalry with David Taylor, his American counterpart, and defeating him in the Olympic final.
However, a new issue has happened, possibly preventing Yazdani from training for several months prior to the 2024 Olympics.
