Illegal Afghan immigrants should immediately leave Iran, interior minister says
TEHRAN- Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi on Wednesday criticized the Taliban for their lack of concern for the issue that has been brought upon Iran with the flood of refugees, stating that undocumented immigrants from Afghanistan have to be expelled from the country.
Vahidi underlined the need to manage the status and activities of Afghan immigrants in Iran while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
He also said it is vital to prevent an Afghan-phobia as there is a small of criminals in all nations, including Afghans. He added thousands of illegal immigrants have been imprisoned in Iran for various reasons.
The minister said Iran has so far deported 200,000 undocumented Afghan citizens, with a number of them having again returned to Iran illegally.
