Proponents of normalization should learn a lesson from recent developments: advisor
TEHRAN – Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on international affairs, has urged the proponents of normalization with Israel to pay heed to the recent developments in the West Asia region.
Speaking in a phone call with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, Velayati offered condolences over the tragic attack on the military personnel at Homs military college in Syria which resulted in the killing of dozens of military personnel and civilians. Velayati condemned the attack and expressed sympathy with the relatives of the victims. “The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to stand by Syria,” he said.
“This barbaric action showed that the enmity with the fighting Muslims of the region and the resistance front still continues and that the invaders have no divine logic and morals. Undoubtedly, the answer to such actions is the one that, centered on the Palestinian resistance, once again proved that what Western colonialism built as a safe house for Zionists is weaker than a spider's web,” Velayati said.
He added, “The brutal attack of Israel on the one hand and the fierce defense of the Palestinians on the other hand, showed that the resistance front is an important matter and the only way to stand and win against the Zionists and their supporters. The chivalrous companionship of the Palestinians with Syria and the manly entry of Hezbollah into this defense complex and the readiness of Islamic countries more than ever show the growing power and authority of the axis of resistance in regional equations. Resistance will continue to be the only way to victory.”
Velayati continued, “Those who think that they can solve their problems by so-called normalizing relations with the Zionists and severing their relations with the Muslim nations of the region should take a lesson from these events. They should know that with baseless and naive designs such as the formation of crossings in the sensitive region of the Middle East, they are seriously endangering the security of the region and the fighting nations.”
The advisor also issued a warning to regional countries that normalized relations with Israel. “We warn some governments in the region to learn from the fate of the countries that have followed their path and now cannot respond to the resistance front,” he said.
The Syrian foreign minister, for his part, thanked Iran for its support for the people and government of Syria.
Mekdad said, “Terrorism is condemned all over the world, and the same people who martyred innocent people in Homs are the same people who commit murder and crimes in Palestine today.”
He added, “We also thank the Islamic Republic of Iran for its constant support and positive role in creating peace and stability in the region. We appreciate you for always supporting the government and people of Syria and Dr. Bashar al-Assad personally. We are sure that the resistance group is very sensitive to the interests of Muslim countries and will defend each other when necessary.”
