Kurash players win gold, silver and bronze in 2022 Asian Games
TEHRAN – Kurash players won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal in the 2022 Asian Games on Monday.
Sadegh Azarang defeated South Korean Mingyu Kim 10-0 in the final of the men’s -90kg.
He had defeated Yash Kumar Chauhan of India 10-0 in the quarterfinals and Turkmenistan’s Ishanmyrat Atayev 10-0 in the semifinals.
Azarang has won Iran’s fourth gold at Hangzhou. Iran national volleyball team and wushu athletes Afshin Salimi and Yousef Sabri have previously claimed three gold medals.
Zahra Bagheri also claimed a silver, losing to China’s Yi Liu 3-0 in the final of women’s -87kg.
She had defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Ulanai Salieva and Vietnamese Thi Phuong Quynh in her previous rounds.
In the weight class, Iran’s Melika Omid had lost to Yi Liu 5-0 in the semifinal. She had defeated Indian athlete Jyoti Tokas 3-0 in the quarterfinal.
With more than 12,000 competitors from 45 nations and territories, the Asian Games has more participants than the Olympics.
Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
