Iran denounces deadly terror attack in Pakistan

TEHRAN- Nasser Kanaani, the spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, on Friday denounced the fatal terrorist bombing of a religious gathering in Pakistan’s Balochistan region.

Kanaani also offered condolences to the Pakistani government and people, particularly the victims’ families, in a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, and hoped for the rapid recovery of those injured in the event.

On Friday, an explosion happened outside a mosque as people gathered to celebrate Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad, in the Kora Khan region of Balochistan’s Mastung district.

According to Aetzaz Ahmed Goraya, the deputy inspector general of the Counter-Terrorism Department Police in the provincial capital city of Quetta, at least 50 persons were killed in the incident.

Based on the police official, more than 50 others were hurt in the bomb incident, and dozens are currently being treated in hospitals, adding that the death toll might grow further because some of the injured are in serious condition.

It was a suicide attack, as per the initial reports and police investigations. So yet, no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion.
