Government has strategic plan for maritime economy development: PMO head

TEHRAN- Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Head Ali-Akbar Safaei said the government has a strategic plan for developing the maritime economy in the country and to this end, 27 strategic coastal points have been selected in which infrastructural projects are underway, the portal of PMO reported.

The official made the remarks in a ceremony held on the occasion of World Maritime Day on Wednesday.

Pointing out that the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) is the main focus of World Maritime Day in 2023, he emphasized the importance of the mentioned Convention as an important international document and the key role of seafarers in the implementation of this convention.

Addressing the same ceremony, Iran’s Transport and Urban Development Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash said a long-term deal with India on operating Chabahar port will be signed in the near future.

“Connecting all ports to the railway network is one of the main policies of the Ministry of Transport and Urban Development. In this regard, a long-term contract for the operation of Chabahar port will be concluded with India soon,” Bazrpash stated.

“Chabahar port is very attractive for investment and we welcome any country that is ready to invest in this port according to the regulations,” the minister said.
